Okay, so it’s not the PSP phone but it’s close. The Sony Ericsson F305 is Sony’s attempt to compete with the Nokia NGage. The Sony Ericsson F305 utilizes motion gaming, meaning it’s like having a portable Wii in your pocket.

Design

The Sony Ericsson F305 is a pocket-sized slider phone with a large 2.0 inch screen. It only weighs 97.5 grams and has dimensions of 96.0 x 47.0 x 14.6 mm. At first glance, if it weren’t for the call and end buttons, you might actually mistake it for an old fashioned gaming device but slide it open and you’ll see the evenly-spaced though somewhat small keypad.

Features

The Sony Ericsson F305, according to Sony, uses advanced motion sensor technology. You can control games with the flick of the wrist or the swing of an arm. If you own a Sony Ericsson W910i, then you’re already familiar with the motion games. I loved the games on the W910i and if the motion sensor on the F305 is more advanced, I hope the processor is advanced as well because motion sensing games won’t be a lot of fun if the processor is sluggish. The Sony Ericsson F305 is preloaded with three games, Bowling, Bass fishing and Jockey though I hope that they would add more.

Of course, let’s not forget that the F305 is also a mobile phone which means you get nice 2 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities, Media Player with TrackID, FM Radio, Bluetooth with Steroe A2DP profile, 10MB internal memory, and Memory Stick Micro support. Sad to say that it is not a 3G phone and only works on GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 networks.

Outlook

The Sony Ericsson F305 is a new breed of Sony Ericsson mobile phones. Though there are only a handful of gaming phones out in the market, I could really see the Sony Ericsson F305 becoming popular with teens specially since the Wii became such a hit. But I have to say that it would be hard to play games in a public place since there’s a chance that you might be mistaken for a lunatic if you keep swinging your mobile phone around. Anyways, I can’t understand why Sony Ericsson just can’t make a PSP phone. I don’t care how much it will cost, I want one.

    "Very Cheap Plastic Looking"
I was going to buy this phone and had been waiting for it to come out. Went into The Carphone Warehouse and the phone had come in that day so I asked to have a look. I was very dissapointed with the cheap plastic look of the phone what put me of from buying it. I am a very keen gamer so this phone was perfect for me. I did own a SE T303 what has excellent build quality. A real let down by Sony Ericsson… Bought the Nokia 5800 in the end and I am very happy…
